Pommes Frites Reopens Today

The original Pommes Frites in East Village was burned and completely destroyed on March 26, 2015 due to a gas explosion ripped in the building next door after about 20 years of business at the same location.
Today, May 23, 2016, they reopened its door in West Village at 11 AM for limited hours with limited staffs so I decided to stop by though I wasn't sure how late they'd open.
I arrived at the shop at 5 PM and I could smell the oil near the shop and saw the door and windows were open.
The layout of the shop was narrow like the original shop and the counter to order was at the back.
(At East Village, the order counter was on the left of the door.)
Menu
They had various kinds of sauces as before, and you can layer sauces.
Ordinary condiments like ketchup and mustard are free. (Written under "Free Sauces.")
There're 30 kinds of sauces except Free Sauces, but unfortunately about half of them is MAYO so that I can't eat (I'm a mayo hater).
We ordered one Regular Fries, Curry Ketchup and a Small Poutine.
They asked me if I wanted to put the sauce over the fries or served separately, and I asked them to put it on the side.
The reason is because I'd like to eat the fries as they are and to enjoy the crispiness from the beginning to the end.
Curry Ketchup had a bit rough texture unlike Heinz and the sourness of tomato and fragrant curry went well.
Fries and poutine were ready in about 3 minutes.
Double fried thick cut fries were golden brown and had appetizing scent.

My hand is large, but the smallest size of fries called regular had lots of fries.
You can see that I stuck the cone into a hole set on the table, and this hole is very helpful and amazing since you don't have to keep holding the cone while eating.
The outside was crispy, the inside was moist and soft, and they're simple but so tasty.
For Manhattan, I think the price is not too high for this quantity and quality.
I'd love to try "Double," the largest fries someday with several sauces.
At the end, I "drank" the fries because it's hard to grab some pieces at the tip of the cone.

It looked the same as the last time though the cup was different, and the cheese curds were squeaky, but somehow the gravy tasted a bit different and a bit starchier.
The gravy was shiny brown, and I think they still use chicken base instead of beef.

火災が発生するまで、同じ場所で約20年間営業していた。
今日2016年5月23日、ウエストビレッジで11時から少人数スタッフで限られた時間だけ
再営業すると知り、何時まで開いているか分からなかったけれど立ち寄ることにした。
17時に到着すると、お店の近くには油の香りが広がり、ドアと窓が開いているのが
見えた。
前の店舗と同じくお店は細長い配置で、注文カウンターは奥にあった。
（イーストビレッジの店舗はドアの左手にあった）
メニュー
相変わらずソースの種類が豊富で、数種類を混ぜることも可能。
ケチャップやマスタードなど、平凡なソースは無料。（Free Saucesに記載の種類）
無料のソースに加えて30種類のソースが用意されているけれど、約半分がマヨネーズを
使ったものなので、マヨ嫌いの私は食べられない。
レギュラーサイズのポテト、カレーケチャップ、プーティン（S）を頼んだ。
ソースをポテトの上にかけるか別添えにするか聞かれたので、別添えにした。
これは、まずはポテトだけを食べてみたいからなのと、最初から最後までサクサクの
ポテトを楽しむため。
カレーケチャップはハインツとは異なって少しザラザラした食感で、酸味のあるトマトと
香ばしいカレーの味が良く合っていた。
3分ほどでポテトとプーティンが出来上がった。
2度揚げした太いポテトは美味しそうなきつね色で、香りも食欲をそそるものだった。
プーティン
カップは異なるものの前回と同じ見た目で、チーズカードはキュッとした歯ごたえが
あったのだけれど、味が違い、とろみが強いような気がした。
グレービーは艶のある茶色で、牛ではなく鶏ベースのままだと思う。
ポテト
私の手は大きい方だけれど、レギュラーと呼ばれる1番小さなサイズでもかなりたっぷりと
入っていた。
写真を見て分かる通り、テーブルに開いていた穴にポテトが入った円錐型の袋を刺して
食べたのだけれど、この穴があるお蔭でポテトを食べている間ずっと袋を持っていなくて
良いのでとても食べやすい。
外側はカリッとし、内側はしっとり柔らかく、シンプルだけれどとても美味しい。
この量と質に対し、マンハッタンにしては値段がそれほど高くないと思う。
いつか数種類のソースと一緒に1番大きなサイズ「ダブル」と食べてみたい。
