Cheesecake From S&S Cheesecake
S&S チーズケーキのチーズケーキ
(Japanese follows. / 日本語は以下へ続く。)
When I was searching for the best cheesecake in NYC, I often saw "S&S Cheesecake" in the Bronx.
It closes at 3 PM on weekdays and not open on weekends, and I'd procrastinated visiting there.
I'm not familiar anything about the Bronx except Yankee Stadium, I checked the map and also the appearance to be able to notice once I get there.
From my research, it turned out it's not a eat-in space but rather a factory selling whole cheesecakes.
This is it and it really was not a fancy confectionery shop.
The glass door was covered with metal mesh and the door was locked.
To get in, I had to ring the bell as it directs; "RING BELL" in red letters.
The door was unlocked and I could go in, and next thing I saw was piles of boxes.
They ship to anywhere in the states now.
There're constantly customers coming but I didn't need to make a reservation to buy cheesecakes because they kept making them, according to a staff who was handling the merchandise.
She said that they'd be open till around 6 PM, so it's not always closed at 3 PM I think.
Also, the supermarket nearby sells cheesecakes of S&S Cheesecake.
Besides plain cheesecakes, there're fruits on top and chocolate versions.
I got a small plain cheesecake and literally a box of cheesecake was given.
The box says that there's no preservatives and prepared with finest and purest ingredients.
It's also a Kosher pastry.

SUPERB QUALITY
Deliciously Different!
A whole plain cheesecake.
The edge was brown while the majority of the top was pale yellow.
The diameter was about 16cm (6.30 inch).
The crust was medium dark brown and it's not straight and even but wavy and deformed.
The highest part was about 5cm (2 inch), but towards the center, the top was slightly inclined.
It's insanely hard to cut the cheesecake while some reviews said it's so airy and fluffy.
I think they sell half frozen cheesecakes because even though it's an hour door-to-door trip, the cake was cold then I got home through the sunlight, heated subway cars and my body heat (I put my hat and gloves on my laps before placing this box to prevent it from getting warm).
It's a simple cheesecake and looked very thick.
I let it stand for a bit at room temperature to let it soften.
It finally became fluffy and light, but at the same time so rich and creamy but not too strong.
My husband doesn't like cheesecake but he could even enjoy this cake for the moderate cream cheese flavor.
The crust was moist and buttery.
I'm not sure if it's the best so far I've had, but it's definitely worth a visit and trying.
Plain Cheesecake (Small): 15 dollars (tax inc.)
