Grilled Cheese From Carnegie Deli

We decided to have some Jewish food tonight, and we went to Carnegie Deli, where they serve traditional Jewish meals like matzo ball soup and potato pancakes, and also non-Jewish plates.
The restaurant was opened in 1937 near the Carnegie Hall.
It's been more than 7 years since last and first time I've been there.
They have to-go and sell meat, baked goods like cookies and bread.
I think this large pickle is also a famous decoration and I remember seeing this 7 years ago.
We got there around 8:30 PM and there's a line and they said it'd be 20 minutes waiting so we lined up.
Despite there're people coming out, the line didn't proceed and we ended up waiting for more than 20 minutes.
Once we're inside, we saw empty tables, so it's just mismanagement of the restaurant.
The walls were filled with photos of celebrities, but I could only tell "Burne,y" a purple dinosaur, but others were hard to notice who they were.
I'm sure if I had seen other walls closely, I'd have noticed some.
Menu
It's 4-5 pages each side so there're a lot to choose from.
I ordered "Grilled Cheese Sandwiches."
They had American, Swiss and cheddar to choose from, and American is the orthodox cheese for classic grilled cheese, so I chose American.

Soon a plate of pickles were served.
Dark green pickles were sour, and bright green pickles were lightly preserved and not fully pickled.
Though it's a simple menu and again, the restaurant wasn't full, it took them a while to bring it to me.
Every time we asked for something, the reply was always, "in a minute I'll be there" but it's not reliable sadly.
Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
3 thin sliced bread had 2 layers of yellow American cheese.
On the surface of the bread, it's buttered but it's not browned at all and the surface and the crust had almost no crispiness but only softness.
Greasy oil + not well-toasted bread wasn't good.
American cheese was melted fine and they're holding bread well.
To be honest, it's too expensive for this quality of grilled cheese (9.99 dollars before tax).
With that price, they could have put all the 3 kinds of cheese.
* You can add cheese for 3 bucks.
I liked the way they kept it very simple and classic, but I was disappointed to have non-crunchy toast with finely melted cheese.
Payment is at the cash registration by the entrance and they accept cash and card.

1937年にカーネギーホールのそばに開店した。
7年ちょっと前に初めて来て以来、かなり久々に再訪。
店内では持ち帰りメニューもあり、肉類やパン、クッキーなども売っている。
7年前にもあった店内の巨大なピクルスのデコレーションも有名なものの1つだと思う。
お店に20：30頃着くと、行列ができていた。
店員によると20分待ちと言われたので、とりあえず並んでみることにした。
お店から出て来る人は沢山いたけれど、全然列が進まず20分以上待つことになった。
店内に入ると満席ではなかったので、お店が上手くマネジメントできていないだけ。
メニューは片面につき4、5ページあり、沢山の種類が載っていた。
私はグリルドチーズサンドイッチを頼むことにした。
チーズはアメリカン、スイス、チェダーから選択することになっていたので、一般的な
グリルドチーズに使われるアメリカンにした。

すぐにピクルスが1皿運ばれてきた。
濃い緑のピクルは酸味が強く、明るい緑色のピクルスは浅漬けだった。
シンプルなメニュー、そして空席もある店内にもかかわらず、グリルドチーズが出て来る
までにかなり時間がかかっていた。
何か頼むたびに「1分以内にテーブルに行きます」と言われたけれど、もちろんこの言葉も
当てにならなかった。
グリルドチーズサンドイッチ
薄い食パン3枚の間（2層）に黄色いアメリカンチーズが挟まれていた。
食パンの表面はバターが塗られていたけれどあまり茶色くなっておらず、耳にも表面にも
サクッとした食感はほぼゼロで、ふわふわの食感しかなかった。
バターの油分＋しっかり焼けていない食パンはあまり美味しくなかった。
アメリカンチーズはちゃんと溶けていて、食パンがしっかりくっついていた。
この程度のグリルドチーズが9.99ドル（税抜、チップ抜）は、正直高い。
この値段なら全3種類のチーズが入っていても良かったと思う。
* チーズを1種類追加するごとに3ドルかかる
シンプルでクラシックなグリルドチーズなのは良かったけれど、チーズはちゃんと溶けて
いたのにパンはカリッとしていなくて残念だった。
支払いは入り口近くのレジで行い、現金、カードのどちらでも支払い可能。
