Fancy Pants Grilled Cheese From The Picnic Basket

When I was in California, I get to see my friend and we went to Santa Cruz to have a relaxing day.
She said there's a good ice cream shop called "Penny Ice Creamery" and she happened to find a sister restaurant called "The Picnic Basket" by the Santa Cruz boardwalk.

We went to get lunch there, and I got a Fancy Pants Grilled Cheese and Anna's Mac & Cheese.

Menu

I asked what kind of cheese they used, though the information I could get was "a mix of 5 kinds of cheese" so I'm not sure what they were.
It's served with a pickled carrot.

Gooey and stringy.

The cheese slipped off from the breads.

And the other side of the sandwich left in the basket had more cheese.

The bread was brownish and I guess it's rye or whole grain.
The surface was buttered, crispy, and wavy and somehow it had tomato-ish flavor and color a bit.
However, the menu didn't mention that vegetable, I think the grilled or the panini press had some tomato sauce on the metal.

The crusts were crispy but not too dried.

The cheese was pale, and I could think of white American, mozzarella, sharp white cheddar, Swiss and provolone by the texture, flavor and the color, but I have no idea...
However not knowing the kinds of cheese, I enjoyed this super cheesy and gooey grilled cheese.

By the location, I thought it'd be smaller but the size and the amount of cheese were decent and the price was reasonable given that some shops charge insanely high at the boardwalk and sightseeing areas.

カリフォルニア州に行った時、友達とサンタクルーズへ行ってのんびり過ごした。

サンタクルスに「ペニー アイスクリーマリー」という美味しいアイスクリームのお店が
あると彼女が言っていて、偶然サンタクルーズの海岸沿い近くにある姉妹店「ピクニック 
バスケット」があることを知った。

お昼ご飯を食べに行き、私はファンシーパンツ グリルドチーズとアナズ マック&チーズを
選んだ。
グリルドチーズに使われているチーズの種類を聞いたけれど、「5種類のチーズを混ぜた
もの」という回答で、詳細は不明。

グリルドチーズにはニンジンのピクルスが添えられていた。
チーズはとろっとして糸を引き、サンドイッチを持つとチーズが滑り出て、カゴに入って
いたもう半分のサンドイッチに大量のチーズが乗った。

パンは茶色がかっていたので、ライか全粒粉だと思う。
パンの表面はバターが塗られてサクサクし、波模様が入っていて、なぜかトマトのような
香りと色が付いていた。
メニューにはトマトが使われているとは書いていなかったので、恐らく鉄板かパニーニ
プレスの金属部分にトマトソースが付いていたのだと思う。
パンの耳はサクサクしていたけれど、パサパサではなかった。

チーズの淡い色や食感、味からホワイトアメリカン、モッツァレラ、シャープホワイト
チェダー、スイス、プロバロンを想像したけれど、何が入っていたかは分からない。
チーズの種類が分からなくても、とろりと溶けたチーズがたっぷり入ったこのグリルド
チーズはとても美味しかった。

海岸沿いや観光地では不当に高い値段で販売されていることが多いので、立地から値段に
対して小さなサンドイッチが出て来るかと思ったけれど、大きさや入っているチーズの
量を考えると値段は安いと思った。
