This year, Hanukkah/hanukah/Chanukah/Chanukkah (there're some other spellings also), was started on December 16 and ended on the 24th, 2014. <-- It changes every year as the Jewish calendar is lunar calendar.

Hanukkah is also called "Festival of Lights" and it's to celebrate the rededication of Temple in Jerusalem after Maccabean Revolt erupted in 166 B.C..
After reconquering, they needed lights to cleanse the uncleaned temple, but they only had a one-night worth of oil.
However, a miracle happened and the light lasted for 8 nights.

Junior's, a family restaurant chain best known for cheesecakes, was selling "Chanukah" cupcake at Grand Central station. (I usually spell it "Hanukkah" but I'm following the decoration on the cupcake.)

A mini dreidel was designed on the left side.

Almost all the side of the frosting had blue and white star-shaped sprinkles.

The stars weren't five-star but 6-stars, the Star of David.
I thought it's very detailed and carefully decorated.

The sponge cake was moist and sweet, and I feel like it's been a while to have such a delicious sponge cake in used for a cupcake without any dried part.

I was afraid it's using mediocre buttercream like Whole Foods, but it actually was a tasty fluffy, light, and sweet frosting even though the color is questioning.
The Star of David sprinkles were crunchy.

今年のハヌカ（ハナカ、英語の綴りは多種類存在）は2014年12月16日から24日までで、
ユダヤ暦（月の満ち欠けで計算されるカレンダー）にちなんでいるため毎年ハヌカの日は
異なる。
ハヌカは「光の祭り」とも呼ばれ、紀元前166年に勃発したマカバイ戦争時のエルサレム
神殿の奪回を記念している。
奪回後、 異教徒によって汚された神殿を清掃する際に明かりが必要だったけれど、1晩分の
油しかなかったものの8日間火が灯り続ける奇跡が起こったとされる。
この奪回と奇跡を覚えておくためのお祭りで、9本の燭台（ろうそく台）に毎日1本ずつ
ろうそくを増やしていく。

チーズケーキで有名なレストランチェーン「ジュニアズ」のグランドセントラル駅支店が
ハヌカのカップケーキを売っていた。
「Happy Chanukah」と書かれたプレートの左側には、ドレイドルという駒がデザイン
されていた。
フロスティングの側面はほぼ全て青と白の星型のスプリンクルで覆われていた。
また、星はよくある5つ星ではなく、ダビデの星（6つ星）で細部にまでこだわりが感じ
られた。

カップケーキのスポンジ部分はしっとりとして柔らかく、乾いた部分がない美味しい
スポンジが使われたカップケーキを久々に食べた気がした。
フロスティングはホールフーズが使っているような不味いバタークリームかと思った
けれど、毒々しい青色にもかかわらず、ふんわりと軽くて甘く、美味しいフロスティング
だった。
6つ星のスプリンクルはカリカリしていた。
