Karaage-kun Yaki-Tomorokoshi Aji From Lawson

Today, June 10, 2014, Lawson launched a new and limited flavor to Karaage-kun called "Yaki-Tomorokoshi Aji."
Yaki-Tomorokoshi is "grilled corn," and Aji means flavor/taste in English.

Yaki-Tomorokoshi Aji was first brought to the market in October in 2007, but it's only available in Hokkaido area.
And this time, it's first time that Lawson made the flavor into nationwide.
The package has Karaage-kun character putting Yaki-Tomorokoshi over the head.
And Hachimaki (headband) says, "匠（Takumi, meaning an expert).
On the bottom right, they're the farm producers who had grown the corns in Hokkaido.
On the lid, it's also Yaki-Tomorokoshi patterns as there're dark yellow with some burnt dark corns partially.
”Persistence of Expert" was written on the back.
Extreme temperature swings create sweet corns in Hokkaido.
Roasted flavor from soy sauce and sweetness from corns produce a perfect Yaki-Tomorokoshi flavor.
Below the description above, there's a little note about "secret Karaage-kun."
I recently learned but about every 1,000 pieces, they have the Karaage-kun character stamped with hot iron on Karaage-kun.
And this little note says "it might have some burnt ingredients due to the hot iron stamp, but it's not a quality problem."
On the bottom left, there's the same pattern shown on the front.
It looked like just regular Karaate-kun, but it smelled like Yaki-Tomorokoshi, especially sweet corn flavor was strong.
When I ate it, it's got some fragrant soy sauce flavor and sweet corn taste.
I wonder how they seasoned this; breading or they marinated chickens in Yaki-Tomorokoshi sauce.

The chicken was white meat but not dried but juicy.
Chicken itself didn't seem to have seasoned, so I guess the breading has Yaki-Tomorokoshi flavor.
I even shouted "Oh!" with surprise as it's obviously Yaki-Tomorokoshi flavor.

2007年10月に北海道限定で「焼きとうもろこし味」が発売され、今回初めて全国で展開される。
パッケージのからあげクンのキャラクターは、頭の上に焼きとうもろこしを乗せ、頭に巻いている
ハチマキには「匠」の文字が入っている。
右下の写真は、北海道のとうもろこしの生産者。
蓋も焼きとうもろこしの柄で、黄色いコーンの中に焼けて黒くなった粒が点在している。
裏面には「匠のこだわり」が書かれていて、寒暖差によって生まれる甘い北海道産とうもろこしが
特徴のからあげクンで、醤油の香ばしさと、とうもろこしの甘さが絶妙な焼きとうもろこし味に
なっていると説明があった。
その説明の下には「レアなからあげクン」について注意書きがあった。
最近知ったのだけれど、1,000個に1個程度の割合で、からあげクンのキャラクターの焼印が
押されたものが入っているらしい。
焼印による焦げがあっても品質には問題がないと記載されていた。
左下には表と同じキャラクターが載っていた。
見た目は通常のからあげクンと変わらなかったけれど、香りは正に焼きとうもろこしで、
特にとうもろこしの甘い香りが強かった。
食べてみると、醤油の香ばしさととうもろこしの甘さがあった。
衣に味が付いているのか、それとも焼きとうもろこし味のタレに漬けこんだのか、どうやって
この味を再現したのか気になった。
鶏肉は今も変わらずジューシーな胸肉だった。
お肉自体にはそれほど味がなく、やはり衣に焼きとうもろこし味が付いている印象。
思わず「お！」と驚くような、焼きとうもろこしとはっきり分かる味だった。
