Cronut From D Liche
D Liche

(Japanese follows. /

I've found another shop sells cronut in Montreal.
It's a cupcake boutique called "Simplement D Liche" and I went there today.

The cronut-ish confectioneries I've tried are below.

There's a sign says "now in stock" with an image of cronut.

As it's a cupcake boutique, there're various kinds of cupcakes besides display-only artistic cupcakes.

Do-not-touch sample cupcakes.
Commercial cupcakes.
They're colorful and cute but my object was cronut, so maybe next time...

There's a big counter where you can eat but not a large space.

However, I was planning to go to another place, I bought a cronut to go, and a cashier packed it in a paper bag.
After 2hrs, the paper bag had big spots of oil from the cronut.
If you're planning to carry the paper bag, I'd recommend you wrap this in a plastic shopper before you put it into your bag.

This is their cronut.
It's much taller and larger than the ones from La Cornetteria.
It's about 12cm (4.7 inch) across and 5cm (2.5 inch) tall.

On the side, there're two holes where I could see custard cream was injected into the cronut.

Cronetto from La Cornetteria had filling in the center, but this cronut from D Liche had custard filling in the croissant air pocket layers.
Yet the filling wasn't fully spread thoroughly in the dough, so there're some space which was only croissant without custard cream.

On the left side, there's no custard and on the right side, there's custard cream.
And I started eating from the left side and the custard cream on the right side started overflowing.
After the shot, the glob of custard cream dropped on a plate.
I think I'll start eating from the side where custard cream is filled next time and see if it works better.

The cronut from D Liche was much lighter than it looked (the oil on the bag), and definitely tastier and fresher than the ones from La Cornetteria.
I didn't feel any weird oil coming into my mouth when I bit, and the dough was a true crispy croissant.
Custard cream contained vanilla beans so that the flavor was great and it's not too sweet.
The icing and white sugar on the top was very little and didn't change the taste of cronut that much with or without them.

Cronut: 5 CND dollars + 2 kinds of tax = 5.75 CND collars
