My First Time To Try Twinkie
トゥインキーを初めて食べた

I'd never had Twinkie before and finally I got a chance to try it.
Twinkie is an American snack cake introduced as a "Golden Sponge Cake with Creamy Filling."
Twinkies were invented on April 6, 1930 by James Alexander Dewar, a baker for the Continental Baking Company.
There're machines used to make strawberry shortcake unused when strawberries were out of season, then he decided to substitute with bananas.
During World War II, bananas were difficult to obtain due to the ration, the company had to use vanilla cream instead.
On May 4, 2012, Hostess (parent company) filed bankruptcy protection.
On November 16, 2012, Hostess announced that the operations would roll down and they have filed a motion to get a permission to close its business and sell its assets, which include its iconic brands and facilities.
On November 21, 2012, US Bankruptcy judge approved their request to shutdown, and all the production in the states was terminated.
Twinkies and other famous Hostess Brands were purchased by private equity firm Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co, and Twinkies returned to US on July 15, 2013.
When I first heard about Twinkies, I think it's around the time people are talking about the bankruptcy, and after they brought the goods back, I kept failing to spot one.
Finally, I found one at Walgreens on the way back from Totto Ramen and could try it for dessert.
The one I got was 2 pieces inside, but there's a box package containing 10 pieces.
It has a rounded top and flat bottom.
At the bottom, there're 3 holes to inject the creamy filling.
On the paper board, there're browned cake flakes.
These are the best part of the sponge cakes...
The sponge cake was pretty greasy, which I could tell as the film package was stuck on the cakes.
The sponge cake was soft and moist and holding the filling in the middle.
The filling was smooth, rich but airy.
Both the cake and the filing were very sweet but I tasted some saltiness.
The balance of sweetness and saltiness was good and it was a tasty mini cake.
I shared a package with my husband so we had one Twinkie each and I think it's a great idea not to feel sick, especially after eating ramen.
Even though it's a tiny sponge cake, with the oily surface from shortening with vanilla flavored creamy filling, it has 135 calories.
A can of regular Coke (12oz. / 355ml) is 140kcal, so I picture it eating one Twinkie means drinking regular Coke with shortening.
My husband said they have orange flavored Twinkie, too, and I'm hoping to find one to try.

同年11月16日、ホステス社は「今後業務を停止予定で、操業停止許可申請をした。
ホステス社のブランド、施設を含む資産を売却予定」と発表した。
同年11月21日、破産裁判所の裁判官が操業停止申請を認め、アメリカ国内での製造が
終了した。
トゥインキーを含むホステス社のブランドは未公開株式投資会社アポロ・グローバル・
マネージメントとメトロポーラス・アンド・カンパニーに買収され、2013年7月15日に
トゥインキーは再販された。
最初にトゥインキーというお菓子を知ったのは、ホステス社の破産が巷で騒がれている
頃だったと思う。
再販されてからトゥインキーを探していたけれどなかなか見つからず、先日行った鳥人の
帰りに寄ったウォールグリーンズで発見し、デザートに食べた。
今回買ったのは2個入りだけれど、10個入りの箱タイプもあるらしい。
トゥインキーの商品名の下には、お馴染みの「クリーミーなフィリング入りの金色の
スポンジケーキ」と書かれていた。
右側にはカウボーイの格好をしたトゥインキーが、「トゥインキーの夏、楽しさの
合図！」と言っている。
袋の中には確かに金色をしたスポンジケーキが入っていた。
上部は丸みを帯び、平らな底にはフィリングを注入する穴が3つ開いていた。
台紙には綺麗な焼き色がついたスポンジケーキが張り付いていた。（ここが1番美味しい）
パッケージが張り付いていたので分かってはいたけれど、スポンジケーキはかなり
油っぽかった。
柔らかくしっとりした生地で、真ん中にフィリングが入っていた。
フィリングは滑らかでクリーミーだったけれど、軽さもあった。
生地もフィリングもかなり甘かったけれど、塩気も少しあった。
甘さとしょっぱさのバランスが良い、ミニケーキだった。
旦那と1個ずつ分けて食べて良かった。
と言うのも、小さなケーキだけれど表面はショートニングが原因であろう油がべっとり
つき、2個とも食べると気持ち悪くなっていた可能性が高い。
（ラーメンを食べた後なのでなおさら）

レギュラーコーラ（砂糖入り）は12オウンス（355ml）1缶は140kcal。
1個のトゥインキーを食べる＝レギュラーコーラにショートニングを加えて飲んでいるのと
同じようなもの、と想像。
旦那によると、オレンジ味のトゥインキーもあるようなので、見つけたら食べてみたい。
