Afternoon Tea At Palace Hotel Tokyo

(Japanese follows. /

Palace Hotel Tokyo first opened in 1961, and they renovated the whole hotel and re-opened on May 17, 2012.
I remember the old hotel was shorter and had kind of "classic" appearance but the current hotel looks more modern and sophisticated.
We've never been to their afternoon tea, so while we're in Japan, we tried their afternoon tea.
On weekends, they don't take reservations but they said if we'd be there at 2PM, when the afternoon tea starts, we should be able to be seated soon.

We arrived at the hotel around 2:10PM and asked a staff and she kept us waiting for something else but soon another staff came and took care of us.
He said there're 3 groups ahead of us and it wouldn't take that long to prepare a table for us so we waited at a waiting space.
He didn't give us any estimated period but in about 5 ~ 10 minutes, they called our name and we're seated.
While walking to the table, I said to a staff that we're surprised that we could seat that quickly and he responded that if we'd arrived there 10 minutes late, it'd have been much longer wait.
The Place Lounge had big windows from the ceiling to the floor facing to a pond so that the space was very bright.

From December 1, 2013 ~ February 28, 2014, they've got "Winter Afternoon Tea."
And the unique point of this hotel's afternoon tea is that it's served with a multi-tiered food box.

At the table, they brought a paper place mat to each of us and it had Japanese plum painting and lists of tea selection.
The towel had light peppermint scent.

Menu

Tea selection
They had English tea, herbal tea and Japanese tea but we didn't see Darjeeling tea which we thought it's one of the teas we always see anywhere.

I ordered Morgentau, rose and mango flavored tea.
When a waiter poured this tea for me, soon very sweet flavor was coming out from the cup and the pot.

The distinguished Japanese lacquer multi-tiered food box with a handle on the top, which waiters hold and carry to the tables.
Then, the waiter took out each plate and placed on our table very nicely.
Counterclockwise from the left bottom, a plate, appetizer, main and dessert.

Main

Dessert

Mini-Burger
The patty is made with 100% domestic beef.
Between soft bans, there're a slice of tomato, a pickle, and some lettuce.
There's no mayo (it's perfect), but ketchup either, which was a little bit weird.

English Tea Scone
To see a square shaped scone was interesting.
It was warm when it's served and there're 3 kinds of condiments to add.
There're clotted cream, mikan (mandarin orange) jam and honey.
This is clotted cream with mikan jam.
Mikan jam had an amazing balance of sweetness and sourness.

Tortilla
Smoked salmon and sour cream, and I think the skinny strips were burdock.

Pincho
Prosciutto and mozzarella.
Salty prosciutto and chewy mozzarella was tasty.

Quiche
Zuwai crab and spinach.
It's got very rich crab flavor which I really loved.

Blinis & Salmon Roe
Blini was bouncy and the cream cheese under the salmon roe had herbal and garlic-ish flavor.

Inari-Zushi
A mini inari-zushi was place in a cup.
It didn't contain any veggies or meat, but simple and tasty vinegar scented rice with black sesame.

Pate de Champagne (country-style pate)
It tasted like ham but the white piece in the middle had similar texture and taste to foie gras.

Danish
Topped with fresh blueberries and icing, and inside of the crispy pie-bread was custard cream.
It's so light and fragile from the crispiness, it's tasty but hard to eat without making a mess.

Dried Fruit
Raisins.

Original Chocolate
White chocolate ganache covered with white chocolate.

Apple Tarte
Underneath the crisp-soft apple comport, there's whipped cream and in the mini tarte cup, there's sponge cake which tasted close to madeleine.

Fruit and Yogurt Mousse
Yogurt mousse had citrus flavor like cream cheese and it's very soft.
On the top, there're fresh raspberries, strawberries and blueberries.

My second tea was served.
It's Yuzu-Matcha and it's Yuzu scented bitter grean tea.
I could smell Yuzu but it tasted like just regular matcha.

Green Tea Cake
The beans were black soy beans, and the cake itself was a little bit dried.
The chocolate stick over the cake was orange peel covered with bitter chocolate.

Macaron
It's sakura flavored macaron.
I couldn't tell any sakura flavor but the filling was raspberry.
The macaron was crispy, not chewy.

Japanese Sweet
Edible little green bird (I think it's Japanese bush warbler as it's considered as a sign of the advent of spring) and it's got little eye on it, too.
The wooden piece is a knife (made with bamboo).
Inside of the soft mochi (sticky rice), it's smooth and fine sweet white bean jam.

The service in the lounge was very high like 5-star hotels except the first female staff we talked to.
We clearly could see that they're treating kids as nice as adults and they served some non-alcohol drink in a tall glass as other grown-ups could get and also a basket of snacks.
