As a part of Valentine's Day gifts, my husband found a perfect sweet for me.

It's a combination of shortbread cookie and chocolate.

It's called "Mlik Chocolate Shortbread" by Laura Secord.

Laura Secord is a Canadian chocolatier, confectionery, and ice cream company that was founded in 1913 by Frank P. O'Connor. 

It was named after the Canadian heroine of the War of 1812, Laura Secord.

Laura Secord is known that she had walked 20 miles (32km) to warn British troops for America's surprise attack before the Battle Of Beaver Dams in 1813 as she's afraid Niagara Peninsula would be under the U.S. control if the mission would succeed.

With the notice, most of the U.S. forces were casualties or taken prisoners.

However, this story behind was spread only a little and Laura and Lieutenant James FitzGibbon made a petition to the government that Laura's contribution had helped the battle, but the government never approved.

In 1860, when Secord was 85, the Prince of Wales, who later became King Edward VII, heard of her story while travelling in Canada. 

At Chippawa, near Niagara Falls, he was made aware of Laura Secord's plight as an aging widow and sent an award of 100 pounds. 

It was the only official recognition that she received during her lifetime.

Now, the shortbread he gave me is not only regular shortbread, but inside of the shortbread, there's milk chocolate.

On the package, it says "handmade" but I'm not sure if it's fully handmade.

In the box, there's one plastic bag with round shortbread cookies which looked like Chinese chive dumplings.

It was crispy, fragile, and light, and the surface was as greasy as classic shortbread.

In the shortbread, there's sweet milk chocolate which went well with salted shortbread.

And while chocolate was melting, it added some smoothness to crumbly shortbread.

I've never had shortbread with chocolate, but this is very good since I don't have to worry about getting chocolate on my fingers.

This was very good but needless to say, very fatty and high calories as it's mix of shortbread and chocolate.

バレンタインに旦那がプレゼントの一つとして、私好みのお菓子を見つけてくれた。

それは、ショートブレッドとチョコレートのお菓子でローラ・セコールから出ている

「ミルクチョコレート ショートブレッド」というもの。

ローラ・セコールとは、カナダのチョコレート、菓子、そしてアイスクリームを製造する企業で、

1913年にフランク・P・オコーナーによって設立された。

社名は1812年の米英戦争の英雄であるカナダ人のローラ・セコールに因んでつけられた。

ローラ・セコールは1813年のビーバーダムズの戦いの前、アメリカ軍がイギリス軍を急襲する

という情報を知り、アメリカ軍の作戦が成功すればナイアガラ半島が支配されることを恐れ、

32km 歩いてイギリス軍のジェームス・フィッツギボン中尉に知らせた。

その結果、アメリカ軍の多くが戦士または捕虜となった。

しかし、ほとんどの人がこの話を知らず、ローラとフィッツギボン中尉は政府に認めるよう

請願したものの、結局政府が認めることはなかった。

ローラが85歳だった1860年に、ウェールズの皇太子（のちのエドワード4世）がカナダを

旅行中にローラの逸話と年老いた未亡人の窮状を聞き、ナイアガラの滝近くにある

チッパワ村を訪れて100ポンドを賞金として与えた。

これが彼女の生きている内に受け取った唯一の表彰だった。

旦那がくれたショートブレッドは、単なるショートブレッドではなく、中にミルクチョコレートが

入っている。

パッケージには「ハンドメイド」と書かれているけれど、どの程度手作りされているのかは

不明。

箱の中にはビニール袋が入っていて、その中にはニラ饅頭のような形をしたショートブレッドが

ごろごろと入っていた。

ショートブレッドはサクサクで崩れやすく、軽い食感で、表面は普通のショートブレッドと同じく

油っぽい。

ショートブレッドの中には甘いミルクチョコレートが入っていて、塩気のあるショートブレッドと

良く合っていた。

チョコレートが溶けていると、もろいショートブレッド滑らかさを足していた。

ショートブレッドとチョコレートを一緒に食べたのは初めてだったけれど、とても美味しかった。

また、これは中にチョコレートが入っているので、チョコが溶けて指が汚れる心配もない。

ものすごく美味しかったけれど、ショートブレッド x チョコレートは言うまでもなく高カロリー。
