Calbee pre-launched Unagi Eel Kabayaki flavored potato chips on July 18, 2016 at conbini, and general sale was from the 25th for a limited quantity.
Unagi Eel Kabayaki is a traditional Japanese food and chargrilled eel dipped in sweet soy sauce based sauce.
Eel is rich in Vitamin A, E and Omega-3, and it's often consumed in mid-summer to get stamina, especially on Doyo No Ushi No Hi (土用の丑の日), that was on July 30 the year.

"Unagi Eel Kabayaki (うなぎの蒲焼き味)" was written on the store curtain, and the first letter was decorated as an eel.

They recreated the grilled to crispy eel with sweet and salty sauce.

Unagi eel kabayaki in Tokai area skips the process of steaming the eels unlike Kanto style, and another characteristic difference is Tamari soy sauce which sweet and salty.

It had soy sauce, oil and also Japanese pepper scent when I opened the bag.

They're lightly fried.

There're many fine black dots on the chips.

The sauce flavor they recreated wasn't only sweet but quite salty, and it had chargrilled flavor with subtly fishy unagi scent.

It didn't have a strong unagi flavor but those who don't like eels, this flavor might be too strong.

発売され、一般発売は25日だった。
うなぎの蒲焼きはビタミンA、E、オメガ3が豊富で、真夏、特に土用の丑の日に多く
消費される。（今年の丑の日は7月30日だった）

のれんに書かれた「うなぎの蒲焼き味」の「う」の文字は、うなぎの形になっていた。

パリッと焼いた、甘辛い味わいを再現したらしい。

東海のうなぎの蒲焼きは、蒸しを入れない地焼きと、甘辛いたまり醤油の味付けが特徴
です。

袋を開けると、醤油や油、山椒のような香りがした。

淡い揚げ色。

ポテトチップスの上には細かい黒の点々が見えた。

甘いだけではなく塩気の強いタレの味で、炭焼きのような香りがあり、うなぎの臭みが

少しあったように感じた。

うなぎの味はそこまで強くはないものの、うなぎが苦手な人には食べられなさそうな味。
