Our First Afternoon Tea In Montreal Was At Le Montréalais

(Japanese follows. /

We hadn't been to afternoon tea for about a month and my husband found several afternoon tea salons in Montreal.
One of them was at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, which is located within walking distance of our apartment and he booked for two of us.

The restaurant in the hotel called "Le Montrealais" is the place they provide afternoon tea set every day.
We got there a couple of minutes earlier than the reservation and had to wait for a couple of minutes till they called our name at entrance.

A waitress led us to the 2nd floor.
I saw many tables were already designed into small groups to large groups, so it made me think this place was almost full with reservation.

The table was set already with napkins, plates, cutlery, and even jams.
My husband napkin had black stain, and also both of our cups had some tea stain so I don't think they wash or bleach well.
Personally, to have jam and coffee cream on the table without lids is unsanitary due to not knowing how long it's been sitting there.

Soon, menu and tea samples were brought.

With these tea samples, we could smell the tea leaves and decide which tea we'd like to order.
It was a great way to pick up tea.
I chose "Soom 1st Flush Estate Darjeeling."
A big tea pot was brought before the high tea stand was served.
It had fresh, light, and refreshing flavor.

High tea stand.
It's new to me to see scones are on the top and clotted cream (here it's written "Devonshire cream") are on the second plate.

Sandwiches

Sweets

Scones

The items were different from the menu, so I'm writing the ones we actually had.

Turkey ham with mustard and cranberry
Turkey ham was moist and juicy.
The amount of mustard they put was pretty big and it was very strong as if it's Japanese mustard.

Smoked salmon with caviar
A little bit caviar was good and fresh salmon was delicious.

Egg and cucumber
It's not egg salad, so it's made with slices of boiled egg and sliced cucumbers.
I'm glad none of the sandwich had mayo.

Plane
Outside was crispy and inside was moist.
It's a quite large scone.
It had very rich butter flavor in it.

Both strawberry jam and orange marmalade jam went well.

Raisin
We're not quite sure if it's raisin as inside, there're some green colored grapes.

Chocolate Eclair
It contained semi-sweet chocolate cream in the choux and bitter chocolate on the top.

Strawberry macaron
It was an authentic macaron with strawberry flavor as it had fragile but chewy texture.
Neither of us really like macaron thou...

Lime macaron
It had sour taste of lime and it was weird to have with sweet macaron crust.
Both sourness and sweetness were strong so that they're not getting along well.
The filling inside was same with the one used in strawberry macaron.

Strawberry tart
It used 2 big strawberries on top.
The filling inside over the crispy crust was custard.

We couldn't change the tea leaves but the portion of foods on the high tea stand was sufficient for the price.
To compare with NYC and Tokyo, this place was cheaper.

<Price for the regular afternoon tea>
26 CND dollars x 2 persons + 2 kinds of taxes = almost 60. 00 CND dollars + tip (15%)
Thus, it's about 35 CND dollars each person.

* with champagne, it's 35 CND dollars before tax and tip.
