With a friend of mine, we went to Angelus in Asakusa.
Angelus is a Kissaten (喫茶店), Japanese-style tea parlor and coffee shop, and they've been in business since 1946.
It's founded by a husband who loved to drink and a wife who was a Christian, and they wanted everyone to eat sweets together shortly after WWII.
There're 6 tables on the first floor after the showcases where you can buy cakes for to-go, This Kissaten is a 3-story building that has open ceiling to make it look like a chapel.
There're so many to choose from, and there're seasonal items under the transparent table cover.
Towelette.
After thinking what to get for a while, I ordered Angelus and Cream Soda.
Angelus, bearing the name of the Kissaten, had 2 kinds; black and white, and I chose black.
It's a little rolled cake with coffee flavored buttercream and coated with sweet chocolate.
The chocolate coating was light and crispy, sponge cake was soft and moist, and the coffee flavored buttercream wasn't that heavy as the amount of cream they put wasn't too much unlike cake decorations.
Coffee flavor was slightly bitter and it's a great balance with other sweet components.
Melon Soda is a popular and well-known drink at Kissaten, and it's a green colored melon flavored soda with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
It always reminds me of my childhood because it's one of the drinks I ordered when we went to Kissaten.

友達と浅草にあるアンヂェラスという喫茶店に行った。
ここは昭和21年（1946年）に開業したお店で、お酒好きの夫とクリスチャンの妻が戦後
間もない頃に「皆で甘いものを食べて欲しい」という思いで始めたらしい。
テイクアウトのショーケースの奥にテーブルが6卓あった。
この喫茶店は吹き抜けの3階建てで、礼拝堂をイメージしているとのこと。
メニューの数が多く、この他にもテーブルマットの下に季節の商品が載っていた。
おしぼり。
色々悩んだ挙句、店名を冠したアンヂェラス、クリームソーダを頼んだ。
アンジェラスは黒と白があり、私が選んだのは黒。
小さなロールケーキはコーヒー味のバタークリームが入っていてスイートチョコレート
コーティングがかかっていた。
周りのチョコレートはパリッとし、スポンジケーキはしっとり柔らかく、コーヒー味の
バタークリームはケーキのデコレーションとは違い少量だったので重たくなかった。
コーヒーのほんのりとした苦味が他の材料と良いバランスだった。
「喫茶店と言えばメロンソーダ」というくらい有名で最も知られた飲み物だと思う。
緑色のメロンソーダにバニラアイスが乗ったこの飲み物は、幼い頃に喫茶店で頼んでいた
ものの1つなので、見ると昔のことを思い出す。
