Rengyokuan

I had lunch with a friend of mine on Sunday at Rengyokuan in Ueno.
It's a soba restaurant and though it's weekend, they're open and we could just come in unlike some restaurants that require reservation.

Menu hung at the outside.

I chose "Traditional Seiro Soba 3 Trays" that is a part of lunch special menu available till 2 PM.
* Seiro (せいろ) is a bamboo steamer that they put soba on.

Dipping sauce with condiments (negi onions and wasabi).
Their dipping sauce was very sweet and had a strong flavor.

3 trays.

There're 2 trays of gray soba and a tray of white soba.

Gray soba was tougher and more flavorful, and the white soba (below) was smoother and softer.
Each tray had small portions that I could divide into 3 to dip in the sauce, so that the amount was good for those who don't eat much or who want to eat something light.

とある日曜日、上野にある蓮玉庵で友達とお昼ご飯を食べた。
ここはお蕎麦屋さんで、予約を必要とするレストランとは違って週末だったけれどすぐに
入ることができた。

店先のメニュー

私は14時まで販売されている「昼の特別献立て」の中から「古式せいろそば 別打ち入り
三枚重ね」を選んだ。

めんつゆとネギ、わさび。
めんつゆは甘さが強く、味の濃いつゆだった。

せいろに乗った蕎麦。

3枚のせいろ。

灰色の蕎麦が2枚と真っ白な蕎麦が1枚だった。

灰色の蕎麦は少し歯ごたえがあり香りも良く、白い蕎麦(下の写真)は滑らかで柔らか
かった。
各せいろの蕎麦は3回程に分けてめんつゆに入れると食べ終わる程度で、少食の人や軽く
食べたい人には丁度良い量だと思う。
