Afternoon Tea At The Pembroke Room

(Japanese follows. /

I happened to find a list of best afternoon teas in the states, and one of them was The Pembroke Room at The Lowell Hotel in Midtown east in NYC.
Soon my husband booked a table for us and we visited on Labor Day (1st Monday of September).
It's not a tall building and blended in with neighboring apartments.

The Pembroke Room's menu.
A doorman opened the door and welcomed us, there's a small reception and the receptionists said to take an elevator to the second floor for afternoon tea.

There's a counter after getting off the elevator.

A staff took us to The Pembroke Room.
The space was much smaller than those of other hotels we've been to, and it's more like someone's house's living room than a lounge.

As we could choose a table, we got a table with a sofa.

Menu

We had Classic Pembroke Tea, and I got Lapsang Souchong for my tea.
The reason I chose the tea was I've never heard that kind and was curious how smoky it would be.
It's described as "This pungent smoky flavor has become a classic, one which makes a great accompaniment to savory dishes."

Lapsang Souchong
In a weighty silver pot, there's a plenty of tea.

It looked like an ordinary black tea but it sure had distinctive and never-had-before scent.

The scent was so characteristic and sharp, and it had almost the same scent as Seirogan, an over-the-counter stomach medicine for diarrhea with creosote.
It's fresh and didn't have much bitterness.
All of the sudden my husband sitting off the wind said, "It smells like salmon" and it was actually my tea, not salmon.

There's a pot of brown sugar and a set of white, raw sugar and zero calorie sweetener, but they also had other zero calorie sweeteners, too.

Bottom

A tong was given one each but we didn't use them and took food by hand.

Egg Salad
On a whole wheat bread, there're egg salad, a slice of hard boiled egg and more mayonnaise or some sort of cream with paprika powder.
It's too rich in mayonnaise for me.

Lobster Roll
In a mini roll, there's diced lobster salad but luckily the mayonnaise wasn't too rich and I could eat it.

Turkey Arugula
A thick layer of mayonnaise was spared on the multigrain bread.
The mayo had lemon flavor.

Scottish Smoked Salmon with Caviar
On a pumpernickel, there're smoked salmon, cream cheese, caviar and dill.
This sandwich was cut with a cookie cutter and cute.

Cucumber and Dill
On whole grain bread, there're slices of cucumber, cream cheese and dill.

Passion Fruit Tart

There're sweet-sour passion fruit puree and the tart was crispy.
The pink balls were covered in chocolate and crispy.

Chocolate Eclair

There're 2 types of eclairs and one was topped with balls that had chocolate cream, and the other one which didn't have the toppings had custard inside.

Strawberry Tart

In the crispy tart, there's vanilla filling.
Over strawberries, there're finely chopped pistachio.

Coconut Cake

White cake was decorated with pink lines that looked like a present box.
This mini cake had very strong coconut flavor.

Vanilla Macaron

Vanilla macaron was crispy and also chewy inside, and it's a quite good macaron.

Sones were brought at last.
There're clotted cream, strawberry jam, lemon curd and orange marmalade.

They had plain, cranberry and blueberry scones and I got a blueberry scone.

The scone was crispy and crunchy outside as it's topped with lots of sugar and the inside wasn't flaky but almost like muffin.

A staff came by and asked, "Another scone?" so I got a cranberry scone.

The scones seemed to be unlimited as the staff came by several times with a basket full od warm scones.

My husband got Darjeeling as always, and I enjoyed milk tea to finish the afternoon tea.
It's quiet and calm like a hidden spot and we enjoyed afternoon tea.
One male staff was serving teas and tea stands in the lounge.
Their scones were similar to muffin tops, but it's great to be able to try multiple scones unlike Carcosa Seri Negara.
We couldn't change the teas but he added some hot water into the pot.

A list of afternoon tea; A List Of Afternoon Tea I Have Been To

クラシック ペンブロークティーを選び、Lapsang Souchong(ラプサン・スーチョン)と
