Arepa Beef Pabellón From Pica Pica Arepa Kitchen

(Japanese follows. /

Ever since I watched a Venezuelan dish called Arepa served at Pica Pica Arepa Kitchen in Mission, SF in "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" on Food Network, I was very curious and wanted to try it.

Arepa is a traditional Venezuelan and Colombian bread made from cooled corn flour.
Pabellón is a classic Venezuelan dish consisting of rice, beans, shredded beef and fried plantain slices.
Though Mission area has been famous for new restaurants and good eateries, they say it's not that safe. (To be honest, I think at night it's quite sketchy.)
Today, I arrived at San Francisco and went there for lunch to avoid any walking in the dark.

It's under Royan Hotel and the side facing 15th street crossing Valencia street had eye-catching mural arts so it's hard to miss.

I got there around 12:30 PM and 70% of the seats was occupied, and customers kept coming in.

Guy Fieri's autograph.
From the TV show, I remembered that Guy Fieri had "Arepa Beef Pabellón" and when I ordered it, I was asked if I wanted to get classic white or sweet yellow.
Not remembering which one he had, I asked the staff which she would recommend, and based on her suggestion, I got a sweet yellow.
(And later, I realized that Guy Fieri had classic white.)

Menu

Once I paid, they gave me a numbered stand and when the dish was ready, a staff brought to where I was sitting.

Arepa Beef Pabellón with sweet yellow.

There're 2 large fried plantain over shredded beef, topped with queso fresco.

Both sides of the arepa was grilled well and fragrant.

There's a cup of vegetables, and they're lightly picked cabbage, red onions, carrots and cilantro with lime juice.

The shredded beef was soft, tender, and juicy, and the beef had a hint of spiciness in sweet broth.

The arepa was crispy outside and the inside was moist, soft, and lightly chewy.

Black bean puree was put at the bottom of the pocket and it looked dark purple as if it's purple corn.

Fried plantains were soft and velvety.
It had sweetness, spiciness, juiciness, fragrant scent, and so much more in the tasty corn pocket.
It filled me up so-so, and if I had been seriously starving, I could have eaten 2 pieces.
Next time I go there, I'm gonna try some other filling with classic white.
