Slime Curry
スライムカレー

I finally tried a "Slime Curry" which launched at the end of September, 2014, by Village Vanguard.
Village Vanguard is a retailer of books, CDs and goods, and their concept is "a fun bookstore."
I've been to several branches and they all have unique items, and it's totally different from ordinary bookstores.
In red, it says, "Legendary Blue Curry" and in yellow, it says, "Slime Curry."
As you can see, the Slime is from Dragon Quest.
And the curry and a spoon at the right bottom were video game-ish design.
On both sides, over the red background, "Slime Curry" in yellow was written longways.
And at the bottom, there's the same blue curry which was seen on the front.
On the top, it says, "Slime Curry has appeared!!" as if the phrase comes up when enemies appear in the game.
In the box, it says the following.
It's a starchy and slimy blue curry...
Though the appearance, the curry contains vegetables and chicken, and it has a mild flavor.
This product was created from a Village Vanguard's staff...
Would you eat this...
There's an example how to serve the curry with eyes and mouth.
Opening the lid, I saw 2 sets of Slime eyes.
There's a simple silver pouch in the box.
To reheat, I could either boil the pouch in a hot water or put the content into a microwavable container and microwave, so I squeezed the curry out into a microwave-safe case.
The separation of the pale and dark blue was quite hideous and disturbing, but it smelled quite good.
I put the lid loosely and heated for 4 minutes.
After mixing the curry well, the separation disappeared and became just a one-tone blue curry.
Now it's a bit darker than before and didn't look tasty at all, but still it had appetizing onion and garlic flavor.
Bright and deep blue curry over white rice.
If I was served this curry at a restaurant, I'd be freaking out for sure.
The moment of truth has come.
It's really good and just tasted like regular curry.
A bit starchy and lumpy, but it's a usual feature that I often see in retort curry.
I couldn't see, but I had some mini chunks of potatoes.
Also I tasted onions and garlic but they might have been dissolved in the blue curry.
There're these brownish objects and they're chicken pieces.
The inside of the chicken had the same dark brown color like outside.
Some had firm texture and torn like breast meat, but others had odor so that this curry uses breast and thigh meat.
It's surprisingly good despite the terrible look, and I could easily finish the curry except the stinky chicken.
A box was 1,080 JPY after tax, but it's not Square Enix official item so that I have no idea why it's so expensive.

本屋」らしい。
どの店舗も個性的な商品があり、よくある本屋とは全く違う。
パッケージには赤い文字で「伝説の青いカレー」、黄色の文字で「スライムカレー」と
書かれていた。
想像の通り、これはドラゴンクエストに出て来るスライムがモチーフのカレー。
右下のカレーとスプーンはゲームに出て来るようなデザインだった。
両側は赤地に黄色の文字で「スライムカレー」と縦書きされていて、その下に表に載って
いたものと同じカレーが載っていた。
上部には「スライムカレー が あらわれた！！」と書かれていて、敵が現れた時に
使われるフレーズが書かれていた。
裏面には以下の文章が書かれていた。
あらわれたのは、どろ〜っとした、スライム状の青いカレー・・・
見た目とは裏腹に、中には野菜とチキンの入った
何とも言えない・・・やさしいお味となっております。
ヴィレッジヴァンガードのスタッフのアイディアにより、
生み出されたこの商品・・・。食べていただけますか・・・
胸肉とモモ肉の両方が使われていた。
気持ちの悪い見た目とは違い、想像以上に美味しく、臭う鶏肉以外は全て完食した。
スクウェア・エニックスの公認商品ではないのに、1箱税込1,080円もする理由は不明。

調理例にはスライムに似せ、目と口をトッピングした青いカレーの写真が載っていた。
蓋をめくると、スライムの目が2組（スライム2体分）見えた。
箱の中には銀色の簡素なパウチが1袋入っていた。
加熱方法はパウチのまま熱湯で温めるか、器に移して電子レンジで温めるかの2種類で、
私は容器に青いカレーを移して電子レンジで温めた。
淡い青と濃い青に分離していて見た目は悪かったものの、香り自体は良かった。
蓋をゆるく乗せて4分加熱した。
カレーをよく混ぜると分離していた青色は1トーンにまとまった。
加熱前よりも少し濃い青色のカレーは相変わらず不味そうな見た目だったものの、
タマネギとニンニクの香りがして食欲をそそる香りだった。
はっきりした青色のカレーを白米の上にかけてみた。
もしお店でこのカレーが出されたら、正直驚くようなビジュアルだった。
カレーは普通のカレーのようにかなり美味しかった。
少しとろみがありダマがあるように感じたものの、レトルトカレーによくある食感と
同じだった。
見えなかったものの、小さなジャガイモが入っていて食べていた時に気がついた。
また、タマネギとニンニクの味がしたけれど、青いカレーに溶けていたのか食感は全く
なかった。
茶色がかった物体がゴロゴロ入っていて、食べてみると鶏肉だった。
外側と同じ濃い茶色が内側にも染み込んでいた。
いくつかは硬さがあり割け方が胸肉のようだったけれど、その他はモモ肉の臭みがあり、胸肉とモモ肉の両方が使われていた。
気持ちの悪い見た目とは違い、想像以上に美味しく、臭う鶏肉以外は全て完食した。
スクウェア・エニックスの公認商品ではないのに、1箱税込1,080円もする理由は不明。
