Suntory launched a new semi-sparkling fruit beverage called "Lemongina" on March 31, 2015.
However, after being talked on SNS, it became so popular that the production couldn't keep up with the demand and Suntory had to shut down the shipment since April 1, which is the next day of the launch.
Apparently, people said it tasted like dirt and beetles, thus, so many people bought to see the flavor.
On April 30, they reactivated the shipment, and I could finally find one at a supermarket on May 3.
The original product of Lemongina is Orangina, which was born in 1936 in France and brought to Japan in 2012 for the first time.
Orangina contains orange, lemon, mandarin orange, grapefruit and orange peel, and it's a sparkling beverage, which is finer and more delicate than carbonated water.
Thus, the package design was very similar.
At the bottom, it says, "Sparkling" and "Contains less than 10% of fruit juice."

"The motif of sparkling Lemongina is Citronnade, which is enjoyed in the garden at home on the weekends under the sun in France."
Citronnade is a French lemonade, and they use citron, a kind of citrus, and not only the flesh but they use the skins.

When I tried it, I didn't taste any soil or earth, and no beetles flavor or whatsoever, besides I have no idea what beetles taste as I've never eaten and I don't wanna think bout it.
It had refreshing and sour flavor at first with fine bubbles of sparkling water, and in the end, subtle bitterness of the peels appeared in the mouth.
It was sweet and sour like a chewable lemon flavored tablet, and to me, it's a lemonade with acid flavor.

どうやら「土の味がする」や「カブトムシの味がする」と言う人がいて、沢山の人が味を
確かめるために買ったらしい。
4月30日に再出荷が始まり、私も5月3日にやっと飲むことができた。
オリジナル商品の「オランジーナ」はフランスで1936年に生まれ、日本では2012年に発売
された。
オランジーナはオレンジ、レモン、マンダリンオレンジ、グレープフルーツ、オレンジ
ピールが入っていて、炭酸水ではなく、より細かく繊細な微炭酸水が使われている。
そのため、パッケージデザインはよく似ていた。
ラベルの下側に、「スパークリング」「果汁10%未満」と書かれていた。
裏面には「レモンジーナは、フランスの晴れた週末に家のガーデンで楽しまれている
シトロネードと呼ばれる果実の飲み物をモチーフにした微炭酸です。」と説明があり、
シトロネードとはフランスのレモネードのようでシトロンというシトラスの一種を使い、
果肉だけではなく皮も入っているらしい。
飲んでみたけれど、土のような味もカブトムシの味もしなかった。
と言うか、カブトムシを食べたことがないので味が分からず、想像もしたくない。
最初はすっきりした酸味のある微炭酸水で、最後に少し皮の苦味が口の中に広がった。
ハイレモンのような甘酸っぱい味で、酸味が強めのレモネードといった印象だった。

I'm one of those who gave this lemongina a try because of those misleading reviews LOL I don't know how people could think about dirt when they drink this, tasted just like a common carbonated lemon water to me.
