I found "Calbee Thick Sliced Potato Chips 'Ajiwai Butter'" yesterday.
* Ajiwai (味わい) means flavorful.
It's launched on February 2, 2015 at conbini (and on the 9th at supermarkets) and will be sold until early in June, so I was lucky to encounter this flavor.

Under the product name, it says, "Richness and flavor of butter, delicate sweetness of honey."

When I saw this flavor, I instantly thought of the super popular potato chips "Honey Butter Chip" from Haitai Confectionery & Foods Co. in Korea.

On the left bottom, it says the chips were seasoned with powder.

They use butter from Hokkaido, and underneath, "We used butter powder," in small letters.

On the back, there's the same image of sliced butter and honey used on the front.

In the middle, "Richness and flavor of butter are enhanced by delicate sweetness of honey, and it has flavorful taste."

Before opening the bag, I kind of had an idea what it would smell and taste like.
The intense buttery flavor was predictable, needless to say, and it sure had it.
Also, I smelled potatoes and the buttery scent was totally different from the regular potato chips' oil scent.

Each chips were pale and had fine waves.
First I didn't think it's that thick, but when held it, the firmness showed it's actually sliced thicker than regular chips without waves.

I could see powers caught in the "valleys" but also on the "peaks."

With the waves and thickness, it had more crispiness and crunchiness than thinly sliced potato chips.
It had strong saltiness form butter with buttery and rich flavor, and I still tasted potatoes, too.
I was waiting to taste some honey, but it only appeared in the end and it's so weak and subtle that I had to focus on finding the flavor.

Compared to "Honey Butter Chip" from Haitai Confectionery & Foods Co., this potato chips had crunchier texture but much less and almost none honey flavor.
Also, this doesn't use fermented butter, the butter tasted like "common and dull butter flavored snack" and it's quite salty.

昨日、「カルビー ポテトチップス厚切り『味わいバター』」を見つけた。
これは2015年2月2日にコンビ二で（スーパーでは9日から）発売され、6月上旬までの期間
限定商品だったので、偶然見つけることができて良かった。
商品名の下に、「バターのコクと香り、はちみつのやさしい甘さ」と載っていた。

このフレーバーを見た時、すぐに韓国で大人気のヘテの「ハニーバターチップ」を思い
出した。

袋の左下には「パウダーで味付けした」と書かれていた。
右下には「北海道産バター」と書いてあり、その下に小さなフォントで「バターパウダー
使用」と添えてあった。

裏面には表と同じスライスしたバターとはちみつの画像が載っていた。
真ん中には「バターのコクと香りを、はちみつのやさしい甘さで引き立たせた風味豊かな
味わいです。」と書かれていた。

袋を開ける前からなんとなく香りや味の想像が付いていた。
バターの濃厚な香りは容易に予想でき、袋を開けるとバターの香りがした。
また、バターだでけはなくジャガイモの香りもあり、通常のポテトチップスに使われる
油とは全く異なる香りだった。

各ポテトチップスは色が淡く、細かい山切りカットになっていた。
最初はそれほど厚いと思わなかったけれど、持ってみると硬さがあり、起伏のない通常の
ポテトチップスよりは分厚くスライスされていることが分かった。
パウダーが谷だけではなく、山の部分にもかかっているのが見えた。

デコボコとして厚みがあるので、薄くスライスされたポテトチップスよりもサクサク、
ザクザクした食感があった。
バターの濃厚な香りと強い塩気があり、ジャガイモの味もした。
はちみつの味は最後に少し甘さがあっただけでかなり薄く、はちみつの味を意図して
探さないと分からないほどだった。

ヘテの「ハニーバターチップ」に比べて、ザクザクした食感があり、はちみつの香りは
ほとんどしなかった。
また、発酵バターを使っていないので、バターの風味も「よくあるバター味のお菓子」と
いった印象で、かなり塩っぱかった。
