I went to Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen a.k.a. Popeyes today for the first time.

It's an American chain of fried chicken fast food restaurants founded in 1972 in New Orleans, Louisiana. 

(For a long time, I thought it's spelled as Popeye's, but according to Wikipedia, it's spelled as Popeye.)

We first had Chicken Tender Combo; 5 pieces of chicken tenders,1 warm biscuit, one of the their signature side dishes (we chose macaroni & cheese) and a medium soda.

While waiting, we saw an advertisement about "Ghost Pepper Wings" shown on an electric bulletin board which was changing regularly and was interested in how spicy it would be, and we tried them afterwards.

Ghost pepper is bhut jolokia, a type of hot pepper from North India and Bangladesh, and it's a Guinness World Record holder as the spiciest hot pepper in 2007.

It says "New!" on the board but I couldn't find any press release or even in-store advertisement except this constantly changing ads.

As we already had Chicken Tender Combo, my husband asked for just the wings, which comes with a warm biscuit.

They only had combo in their system but not as single item (non-combo), they instead typed "large sprite" as it's the closest price for the non-combo item.

There're mix of wingetts and drummetts with a warm biscuit.

Wingettes and drummettes description is below. --- "ette" is a suffix to minimize a size of the noun.

This is a wingette.

The breading was as rough and crispy as chicken tenders but it had slightly reddish or orangish spots on the breading.

It smelled spicier than regular "spicy" chickens they have as an option besides "mild."

I saw some orange spices between breading and white meat, but it didn't do anything to me.

"Taste the mystery" made us wonder the flavor and a little bit scared us, but it turned out that it's not spicy at all (to me) and I was pretty disappointed.

I definitely tasted the heat and the spiciness was similar to habanero which can cause you choking and coughing if you swallow it into a wrong tube.

However, the heat was far from causing anodizing pain.

If you can't handle spicy food, this might be too spicy, but those who love spicy-hot foods, it'd be tasty with low expectation for the spiciness.

今日初めて「ポパイズ ルイジアナ キッチン」というファストフード店に行ってきた。
これは1972年にルイジアナ州ニューオリンズに設立されたフライドチキンのチェーン。

最初はチキンテンダー（笹身のフライドチキン）5個、ビスケット1個、サイドメニュー1つ

（数種類ある中からマカロニ&チーズを選択）、Mサイズの飲み物がセットになった

「チキンテンダーコンボ」を注文した。

待っている間、自動でページが変わる電光掲示板に「ゴーストペッパーウィング」が表示

され、どれだけ辛いのか気になったので後から注文してみた。

ゴーストペッパーとは、ブットジョロキアという北インド、バングラディシュ産の唐辛子

のことで、2007年に世界一辛い唐辛子としてギネス登録された。

「新商品！」と書いてあったけれど、プレスリリースを見つけることはできず、店内にも

ページが変化し続けるメニュー以外に広告は全くなかった。

既にチキンテンダーコンボを食べていたので、コンボではなくウィングだけを注文した。

（ただし、ビスケットは付いてくる）

ただ、システムにはコンボのみの情報が入力されていて単品の情報は無かったので、1番

値段の近いLサイズのスプライトが伝票に打ち込まれていた。

ウィンゲットとドラメットが半分ずつ入っていて、ビスケットが1個ついてきた。

ウィンゲットとは手羽の部分で骨が2本入っていて、ドラメットはドラムに似た形の部分。

（Wingette、Drametteのetteは接尾語で、名詞を小型化させる働きを持つ）

衣はチキンテンダーと同じく大きめでサクサクしていたけれど、色は少し赤みがかった

又はオレンジに近い箇所がところどころに見られた。

通常メニューのフライドチキンには「マイルド」と「 スパイシー」があり、これはその

「スパイシー」よりも辛い香りがした。

衣とお肉の間にオレンジ色のスパイスが見えたけれど、全く刺激がなかった。

「謎の味をご賞味あれ（Taste the mystery）」と書かれていたので味が気になり、かなり

辛いのか少し不安になったけれど、正直（私には）全然辛くなくて残念だった。

もちろん辛さはあり、間違って気管に入るとむせて咳が止まらないようなハバネロに近い

香りはあったけれど、もだえるような辛さからはほど遠かった。

辛いものが苦手な人にはお勧めしないけれど、辛いものが好きな人は激辛を期待せずに

食べるとちょうど良いと思う。
