Meiji launched a new Apollo chocolate snack called "Rich Strawberry Giant Heart Apollo" on April 22, 2014.

Apollo has been sold since 1969 and it consists of two layers of pale pink strawberry flavored chocolate and milk chocolate shaped in conical body.

It's named after Earth Return Vehicle of Apollo 11 which reached to the moon and came back to the earth safely.

This new Apollo's strawberry flavored chocolate contains 5 times more strawberries, and each piece is bigger than regular Apollo (but not 5 times bigger).

There're 9 mini individual packages in a box.

It's about 190 JPY, so each Apollo is about 21 yen, which is a bit pricey.

Strawberry part was deep pink and sort of reddish like raspberry.

Regular Apollo has only a little bit of strawberry flavor, but this one definitely got much stronger taste with sourness like real strawberries have.

When you look it from the top, it's heart shaped.
Regular Apollo isn't shaped like this but just a cone.

21 yen for a piece of chocolate isn't that reasonable as it's just a snack, not made by a special chocolatier, but this Apollo provides much deeper and realistic strawberry flavor.

明治は2014年4月22日に「いちごが濃い大粒ハートアポロ」を発売した。
アポロは1969年に発売された円錐型のチョコレートで、淡いピンク色のいちご味のチョコレートと
ミルクチョコレートが2層になっている。

月面到着を果たしたアポロ11号の帰還船がイメージになっているらしい。

今回発売された「いちごが濃い大粒ハートアポロ」はいちごが5倍使われていて、1粒の大きさも

5倍までとはいかないけれど、通常のアポロよりもかなり大粒。

1箱に個包装されたアポロが9個入っていた。

1箱190円ほどだったので、1粒21円と高め。

いちごの部分はピンクというよりは赤色に近く、ラズベリーのような色だった。

普通のアポロは薄いいちご味だけれど、このアポロはいちごの味が濃く、本物のいちごのように

酸っぱさもあった。

通常のアポロは単なる円錐形だけれど、上から見るとハートの形をしている。

チョコ職人に作られたわけでもない単なるスナック菓子が1粒21円なのは安くはないけれど、

普通のアポロよりも「いちご」とはっきり分かるチョコレートで美味しい。
