"Happy Turn" is a name of rice cracker produced by Kameda Seika Co., Limited based in Niigata prefecture.
The first Happy Turn was launched in 1977, and when they're developing the item, it's economically depressed due to the first oil crisis in 1973.
And they named this rice cracker with a hope that "Happy would return to the consumers."

Happy Turn has an oval shape with powder called "Happy Powder," which is made with sugar, salt, amino acid and hydrolyzed protein.
Happy Powder has an unique combination of salty but sweet flavor.

On May 19, 2014, they launched a limited time only flavor "Salt Caramel."

Both on the front and back, it says "limited time flavor."

On the back, it says that milk caramel goes well with Happy Powder, and the salt define the richness of milk caramel.

I smelled sweet caramel flavor when I opened the bag besides the classic Happy Powder.

It looked a little bit darker than classic Happy Turn.

First I tasted caramel and while munching, I tasted sweet, salty, and sour Happy Powder.
As Happy Powder originally contains salt, I couldn't tell if they increased the amount of salt they used to create the limited flavor, "Salty Caramel."
With caramel flavor, Happy Turn had a little bit westernized taste.

「ハッピーターン」は新潟県に本社を置く亀田製菓が製造販売する、1977年に発売された米菓。
商品開発時は1973年の第一次オイルショックの影響を受け不景気だったので、「お客に幸せが
戻ってくるように」という願いを込めて名付けられたらしい。

ハッピーターンは楕円形の煎餅で、「ハッピーパウダー」という粉がかかっている。
この粉の原料は、砂糖、塩、アミノ酸、タンパク加水分解物で、あまじょっぱい味。

袋の表にも裏にも「期間限定」と書かれていた。
裏面には「あまじょっぱいハッピーパウダーとミルクキャラメルは相性ぴったり！」とあり、
塩でミルクキャラメルのコクが引き立つと記載されていた。

袋を開けると、ハッピーパウダーの香りと、甘いキャラメルの香りがした。
色は通常のハッピーターンよりも少し濃かった。

最初はキャラメル味で、噛んでいるうちに甘じょっぱく酸味のあるハッピーパウダー味になった。
元々ハッピーパウダーは塩を含むので、「塩キャラメル」という味を表現するために塩の量を
増やしたかどうかは分からない。
キャラメル味が足されたことで、ハッピーターンの味が少し西洋化されていた。
