Croissant Taiyaki (Apple Custard)

(Japanese follows. /

Since I found this "Croissant Taiyaki" at Shinjuku Alta, I was interested in trying the new snack.
Croissant Taiyaki is produced by "Gin No An," that is famous for thin-crispy dough Taiyaki, and Gin No An is operated by HotLand corporation and its most popular chain is "Gindaco," a Takoyaki chain.
Croissant Taiyaki uses 24-layer croissant dough to create crispy texture.

Taiyaki --- It's a fish-shaped cake containing sweet red bean paste (other sweet fillings) between 2 cakes.
Depends on shops, the cakes are thin and crunchy or fluffy and soft.

Takoyaki --- It's a ball-shaped made with flour-based batter holding octopus inside, known as "Octopus Ball."

Today, I finally had some space in my stomach when I was in that area and I stopped by.
It's raining and cold today so that there's only one person before me and I say nobody after me.
(It's also weekday's afternoon.)

There're 2 kinds available; Azuki (sweet red bean paste) and Apple Custard.
I couldn't imagine the taste of Azuki + butter, and also Apple Custard was available for a limited quantity, I got Apple Custard.
Samples of Croissant Taiyaki are displayed nicely.

One Croissant Taiyaki was stored in a bag which had oil paper one side and the other side was plastic.
There's a red sticker on the bottom right, and I assume this means it's Apple Custard.

It's not technically fish-shaped but you can see a fish.
Some shops intentionally leave the excess batters as they're crispy.
On the surface, there're coarse sugar all over and some slices of almonds.

On the other side, the details like an eye, mouth, scales and fins were visible as there're only a few coarse sugar.
It looked close to Danish bread.

It was soft and chewy inside when I had first bite, but there's no filling yet.
After a couple of bites, I reached the filling.
It's not smooth but mushy custard with vanilla beans, and I saw no apple there.
Towards the tail fin, I found some sliced apple comport.
The apples had crisp and juicy flesh.
Outside was crispy and crunchy from the coarse sugar, and the fins were very crispy like croissant.
The custard wasn't that sweet so that the sugar dots on the surface didn't seem to be too sweet.
I enjoyed the various textures in one Taiyaki.

Croissant Taiyaki /
