Peyoung Sauce Yakisoba

(Japanese follows. /

Peyoung Sauce Yakisoba is produced by Maruka Foods Corporation based in Gunma prefecture.
Its first launch was back in 1975, which was the first time in the industry to use squared-shaped tray for instant noodles.
The brand name "Peyoung" was created in 1973 when they first launched Peyoung Noodle, and the origin is "Pair" and "Young."
At that time, instant noodle in cups were fashionable and  more expensive than that in bags, and Maruka wished young couples to share a cup with two.

Even though Peyoung Sauce Yakisoba can be found pretty much any supermarket or conbini, I'd never bought and tried even once.
Some of my friends said it's good, so I tired it first time in my life.

To see a square case was very interesting to me.
They wanted to create something different from other competing companies which all used a circular form tray, and also they got  a hint from food stands' trays that were square.
On the top, there's a word "big" and it because that the original Peyoung Yakisoba contained more amount of noodle than other instant noodle around that time.

On the side, it says "Peyoung Sauce Yakisoba."

In the tray, there're noodle and 3 pouches.
You can take all the pouches out.

Then prepare the lid.
You can see these 3 little tabs on the left top.

You need to lift them up like the photo below.

You can open "かやく (Kayaku)," means adding or extra ingredients, and sprinkle them over the noodle.

And add hot boiling water (500ml) to the tray.

Put the cover back and wait for 3 minutes, then drain hot water form the little 3 holes you prepared first.

Now it's cooked and time to add sauce.

This liquid sauce is the firs item in the industry while powdered sauce was the mainstream back in these days.

When it's mixed well, you can add "ふりかけ (Furikake)" and " スパイス (Spice)" as seasonings.
Furikake on the left side contained sesame seeds and dried seaweed, and the right pouch was fine beige powder, which smelled like pepper.

Now ready to eat.
They've never changed the sauce since they produced the first Peyangu Sauce Yakisoba.
The sauce is plain and described as "mellow sauce."
I agree with the description as it's actually light and not too sweet but had some flavor.
Noodles were regular instant noodles to me.
The chunks of meat was made with chicken with beef extract, I assume, and they're weird so I didn't really eat them.

I'm used to eating UFO by Nissin and personally the sauce was too bland to enjoy till the end.
Some other seasonings might have helped if I had added like soy sauce or Yakisoba sauce.
