Koeda Choco Fashion

Morinaga and Mister Donut worked together and made this new collaborated sweet.

Morinaga is famous for chocolate and snacks and Mister Donut is famous for donuts, of course.

One of the popular snacks of Morinaga is Koeda, which first was brought to the market back in 1971.

It's a milk chocolate containing rice puff and almond, and the shape is "koeda" which means twig in English.

The length is about 2-3 inch.

Inside of the package says, "Choco Fashion, which has been sold at Mister Donut since November 1983. This is the 'Old Fashion' (a name of their donuts) covered with milk chocolate. This small magic makes a huge difference. Same year, the original 'Angel Chocolat' and others had a 'Chocolate Debut', which use chocolate coating as this Choco Fashion does."

The concept of this product is, "We created Mister Donut's famous Choco Fashion taste Koeda under the supervision," according to the back side of the package.

Personally, I couldn't notice the taste well...

I tried hard to find the "donut" flavor, then the itty-bitty rice puff had some sort of donut-ish fragrance.

They tasted fine but I wish I could feel stronger donut flavor in it.

Sweet Potato Paste

I got this jar of yellow paste at Pastry Boutique in Park Hyatt Tokyo.

First time I saw this one was on Park Hyatt's twitter.
They introduced this paste and it caught my attention.

I've seen peanut butter paste, chocolate spread, or any other fruit jam paste, yet it's my first time to hear or see "sweet potato paste" ever.

When I had lunch at the delicatessen, I went up the stairs to get this paste.
They have several other kinds; Premium Chocolate Paste, Toffee Cream, etc.

When I opened the cap, it smelled like sweet potato, and the texture was smooth but still could feel the delicate roughness of the pureed potato.
And I saw vanilla beans in it.

I put the paste on a slice of bread using thin sliced sandwich bread.
It was really tasty and the flavor was rich as if you're eating sweet potato itself.

Then, I put the paste on regular slice bread and toasted.
The flavor became stronger (in a good way) and had savory scent.

As you can see the label on the backside, it uses sweet potato, heavy cream, sugar and vanilla beans. So you can see the black spots in the paste.

The also note says to consume fast once you open it.
It is a cliche quote to everyone, but what I was surprised at was, they put parenthesis and say, "Please consume fast (approximately 2 weeks) once you open it."
I thought it's really considerate message as they indicate the exact length of how fast exactly what they mean in "fast."

Monaka Caplico

This is a new sweet from Glico.

They launched this Monaka (thin crisp wafers sandwich) Caplico on September 27, 2011.

"Giant Caplico" is the famous snack since 1986, the original "Caplico" was made in 1970.

The concept of the "Giant Caplico" is "Have a big bite as it's so tasty."

They kept the same concept for this Monaka Caplico, but they added crunchy texture with monaka.

And they uses same air-in chocolate which brings you lightness.
Chocolate is not only one kind, they uses vanilla chocolate and milk chocolate.

You can just bite into or break it like wafer ice cream.

This monaka prevents your hands from getting dirty and sticky even in the hot weather!

Pink Macaroon Sweet
Acai Berry & Raspberry Jelly

New sweet from Uchi Cafe series of Lawson.

This new sweet caught my attention really quickly!
It's pink and macaroon, also using real strawberries.

It looks fancy and really cute!
A white chocolate and dried strawberry flakes are on the top of the macaroon shell.

Usually macaroons are containing cream between the shells but this one has whipped cream and cut strawberries on the syrup-soaked sponge at the bottom.

In the center, there's a hard jelly of acai berry and raspberry.

The whipped cream wasn't too sweet so I could enjoy the sweetness of strawberries.

Light macaroon, fresh strawberries, whipped cream, jelly and soft sponge.
It was a lot to enjoy the various textures in just one sweet.

MUJI Sweet Potato Cookies

This is one of the newest autumn sweets from MUJI.
It's sweet potato flavored cookies.

On the top of the package, it says, "We add sweet potato paste into the dough. Crispy baked sweet potato flavored cookies."

When I opened the bag, despite they're separately in tiny plastic bags, it already smelled so sweet and reminded me of sweet potato.

The individually packaged cookies has actual sweet potato shape!

Regular and well-known sweet potato is tender and mushy inside with shiny and brown top, yet this cookie is; "tastes like sweet potato but the texture is cookie" to make it simple.

As each small cookie is saved in a pouch, it's always fresh and crunchy.

The dough was yellowish orange and smelled like pumpkin pudding.

Ukiwa-man (Tube Ban)
