Kappa Ebisen is a Japanese snack produced by Calbee and it uses shrimp.
Its initial launch was in 1964 and nowadays Kappa Ebisen is sold overseas like the US, China and Thailand.

On April 21, 2014, new and limited flavor "Tom Yum Goong" was launched at Aeon groups' stores.
Aeon Co., Ltd. is the biggest retailer in Asia and owns Mini Stop (a conbini chain).

Aeon had "Thai Festa" from the 24th to the 27th, and I happened to find this flavor in the same section.

On the package, there's a drawing of a red shrimp like regular Kappa Ebisen has, a photo of Tom Yum Goong soup on the left, and on the right bottom, there're a red pepper and cilantro.

At the bottom, there's a note that this snack was manufactured in Japan recreating the Tom Yum Goong flavor Kappa Ebisen sold in Thailand with arranged the package design and flavor.

On the back, there's a similar note written above and also "Please enjoy the authentic spices."
"Let's go Japan" --- I wonder they meant "Let's go to Japan" or they're cheering Japan.

Underneath the picture above, there're some description in Thai but it's impossible for me to read it, but I guess it's explaining what Kappa Ebisen is.

When I opened the bag, I smelled Tom Yum Goong flavor but also the classic Kappa Ebisen's fragrant flavor, too.

The snack itself looked like regular Kappa Ebisen except the dots were slightly brighter red.

It had intense sour and spicy Tom Yum Goong flavor and fish sauce scent first, and the it turned into shrimp flavor in the end.
It had the traditional soup scent for the first seconds only.
Even though you don't like fish sauce or lemongrass flavor, you might be able to enjoy this as this Kappa Ebisen won't provide that strong flavor.

かっぱえびせんは、カルビーが製造しているエビを使ったスナック菓子。
最初に発売されたのは、1964年で、現在ではアメリカや中国、タイ王国といった海外でも販売
されている。

2014年4月21日、期間限定の新フレーバー「トムヤム味」がイオングループ店舗で発売された。

4月24日～27日まで、イオンでは「タイフェスタ」が開催されていて、そのコーナーでたまたま
このかっぱえびせんを見つけた。

袋には通常パッケージと同じエビが真ん中に描かれ、左にはトムヤムクンの写真、右下には
唐辛子とパクチーの画が載っていた。

袋の下には、タイ王国で販売しているトムヤム味のデザインと味をアレンジして国内で生産した
商品だと記載されていた。

裏面には上記と同じような商品説明と、「本場の味わいをお楽しみください」と書かれていた。
その下には日本地図があり「Let's go Japan」とあるけれど、「日本へ行こう」という意味なら
「Let's go to Japan」でなければならないので、「日本頑張れ」の応援メッセージなのか不明。
その下にはタイ語で商品説明がされいるのだと思うけれど、さすがに解読不能なため写真だけ。

袋を開けると、通常のかっぱえびせんの香ばしい香りと、トムヤムクンの香りがした。
見た目は通常商品とほぼ同じで、違うのは点々が鮮やかな赤色な所ぐらい。

最初にトムヤムクンの酸味と辛味、ナンプラーの風味があったけれど、最後には普通の
かっぱえびせんと同じ味になった。
伝統的なスープの風味は最初だけ。
ナンプラーやレモングラスが苦手な人でも、最後にはかっぱえびせんの味になるこのお菓子なら
あまり気にならずに食べられると思う。
