When we're in Washington DC, we went to Ben's Chili Bowl which is a landmark restaurant in Washington DC.
In 1958, Ben and Virginia started renovating a building at 1213 U Street, and it's originally built in 1910 for a silent movie house called "The Minnehaha Theater."
It's covered into a pool hall by Harry Beckley, one of DC's first African American police detectives later.
On August 22, 1958, Ben's Chili Bowl was opened.
It's often visited by both police and protesters during the 1968 Washington DC riots and also celebrity regulars such as Bill Cosby and Chris Tucker.
Regarding Washington DC riots, after civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968, riots occurred in the District, mainly in the U, 7th, 14th and H Street corridors where were African American residential and commercial areas.
The riots continued for 3 days until more than 13,000 federal police and National Guard of DC stopped the violence, however, many stores and building were burned and at in the late 1990s, they're finally rebuilt.
On January 10, 2009, which was 10 days before his inauguration, President-elect Barak Obama visited and ate lunch there.
On the wall, there're paintings of Bill Cosby and President Obama.

To find a parking on the street in DC was ridiculously hard, and we drove several loops before my husband dropped us off before he was going to look for a space.
When we came in, we saw that "Parking In Rear" sign and he could safely park his car.

My husband got "Jumbo Beef Dog" and "Chili Cheese Fries."
Over a lot of fries, there're cheese and Ben's Spicy Homemade Chili Sauce.
It's a beef dog, but they had pork & beef mix, turkey and also veggie dogs.
Both were added Spicy Homemade Chili Sauce, and they're not very spicy but rather a hint of spiciness at the end.
I got a "Ben's Rice Bowl."
A while later I placed my order, the waitress came back to me and said, "We don't have the plate. Are you interested in something else?"
However, I was only curious about this dish and said so, they managed to put them on a paper plate.
Over the rice, there're chili (con carne or vegetables), tomatoes, onions, and cheese.
I chose chili con carne.
When mixed all well, it's salty, sweet, and also spicy from all the ingredients on the plate.
Chili Cheese Fries: 5.95 dollars
Jumbo Beef Dog: 5.95 dollars
Ben's Rice Bowl: 6.95 dollars

ワシントンDCに行った時、DCの史跡であるベンズ チリボウルに行った。
店内
DCで駐車スペースを見つけるのは容易ではなく、町内を何周もした。
駐車スペースを探しに行く前に旦那が私たちをお店で降ろしてくれたので、先に入店する
と、店内に「脇道にお客さん専用駐車場有り」というポスターを見つけた。
早速旦那に連絡し、駐車することができた。
カウンターとテーブル席があった。
フライドポテトの上に、チーズと自家製スパイシーチリソースがかかっていた。
牛肉ドッグに加え、合挽き、ターキー、ベジタリアン ドッグがあった。
両方とも自家製スパイシーチリソースがかかっていて、激辛ではなく後味に少しだけ
ピリッとした風味があった。
私は「ベンズ ライスボウル」を頼んだ。
しばらくしてから「器がないので出せませんが、何か他の商品に変えますか？」と聞かれ
たのだけれど、これにしか興味がないと言うと紙皿に入れて出された。
ご飯の上にチリ（肉入りのコンカルネ、又は野菜）、トマト、玉ねぎ、チーズが乗って
いた。
チリコンカルネを選んだ。
全てよく混ぜると、全ての具材から塩気や甘み、ピリッとした辛さが味わえた。
1958年、1213 Uストリートにあった建物をベンとバージニア夫妻が改築し始めた。
このビルはもともと1910年に建てられたもので、無音映画館「ミネハハシアター」として
しようされ、後にDCで最初のアフリカ系アメリカ人刑事巡査であったハリー・ベックリー
によってビリヤード場に改装された。
1958年8月22日、ベンズ チリボウルが開店した。
1968年のワシントンDC暴動では警察官やデモ隊た多く来店し、ビル・コスビーやクリス・
タッカーなどの有名人もよく訪れる。
ワシントンDC暴動は、公民権の指導者キング牧師が1968年4月4日に暗殺された後DC
（黒人の居住地、商業地の中心であった主にU、7番、14番、Hストリート）で暴動が
発生した。
この暴動は13,000人以上の連邦警備隊とDC州兵が止めるまで、3日間続き、店舗やビルが
燃やされ、再建が完了したのは1990年代後半だった。
大統領選を制したオバマ氏の大統領就任式の10日前である2009年1月10日に、ここでお昼
ご飯を食べたらしい。
外壁にはビル・コスビーとオバマ大統領が描かれていた。
店内
