A Night At The Museum For Grown-Ups
大人限定ナイトミュージアム

On August 1, 2014, the American Museum of Natural History held "A Night At The Museum For Grown-Ups" for the first time.
The sleepover has been held for kids many times, but it's the first-ever only for adults ages 21 and up.
I don't remember the exact amount of tickets, but I think about 200 tickets were sold out instantly when it's announced, and many missed the chance.
We're one of them who didn't get to go, but this year (2015), they set 2 dates for adults' sleepovers. (They also have 2 dates available for early next year.)
My husband got us tickets for October 2, 2015 when they're available, but until the last minute, the internet site seemed to have some tickets left.
Things we're to bring were the following.
+ Sleeping bag
+ Pillow
+ Camera
+ Toothbrush and toothpaste
+ Washcloth
+ Warm comfortable clothing to sleep in
+ Change for vending machines
+ Ear plugs (optional)
+ Sleep mask (optional)
I packed minimal items and even wore my pajama pants from home.
What I brought was;
+ Blanket (instead of sleeping bag)
+ Smartphone (instead of camera)
+ Toothbrush and toothpaste
+ Washcloth
+ Ear plugs
+ Sleep mask
+ Disposable face mask --- to avoid dry air and dust
+ A bottle of water
+ Portable phone charger
+ Eco bag --- to carry valuable items for dinner/night tour/breakfast
For pillow, I used a rolled sweatshirt that I wore from home.
When we checked in, we're provided a schedule sheet, a plastic card to put around the neck and 2 free museum tickets for the future.
They're giving out free T-shirt; whale or dinosaur, and once we received the shirts, they punched the card.
The sizes were Large or Extra Large.
There're many people bringing lots of stuff and I felt like I was one of the lightest packers.
Milstein Hall of Ocean Life was the sleeping area, and we could choose own cot.
I chose my spot.
This was what I was seeing that night.
From 7-8 PM, they had reception and orientation with champagne and water.
Live jazz was provided, too.
Until dinner, we walked around some areas and to see such an empty museum was very unique.
Dinner was 8:15-9:30 PM at Powerhouse.
Following the lights was like a hunt for treasure.
The space looked very fancy.
And live cello.
Each table had one stuffed animal in the center of the table.
Buffet dinner
Mashed potatoes with cheese
Salad
Beef
Salmon
Polenta
Some green vegetables
Many choices of desserts.
Non-alcoholic beverages were at the stand, but they also had some wines.
At the table, waiters and waitresses were only serving red and white wine, not juice, so every time we had to get up to get another glass of soda.
There're coffee and tea.
I got everything to start with.
The green vegetables were as bitter as kale and field mustard, polenta had weird flavor and the beef was dried and tough...
Desserts were tart, opera cake, cream puff and mini cheesecake, and some were coconut flavored and fillings were a bit mushy.
On the table, there're some chocolate and ring pops.
However, the candies were all expired on September 11, 2014.
Around 9 PM, the staffs walked around and at each table, they said to look for a memo.
Luckily, my chair had the sticky memo and I got a new friend.
I got a polar bear.
From 10 PM, Night at the Museum Tour was held, and we walked around with staffs in the museum and learned new things.
Live Animal Presentation was one of our high priority events of the night.
At 11:30 PM, the presentation started and we got to see multiple animals.
Hawk
Crocodile
Snake
Wildcat
Lunar Lounge was open from 11 PM to 7 AM to grab snacks and drinks.
There're cushions.
Fruits
Pretzels and potato chips
Cookies and brownies
Lemonade
Until 1 AM or so, we could freely walk through the museum and got to see 3D movie, too.
Dinner was more sophisticated than I'd imagined but wasn't the great quality.
I liked snacks more actually yet I wish the cookies were baked fresh like the schedule said.
After enjoying some snacks, we walked around the museum again.
Dinosaurs were lit up with red light.
Special exhibition "Live at the Limits" was of course open.

These are displayed at the main entrance of the museum, and again, it's really weird to see no one was there since it's very busy during the daytime.

It's almost impossible to take "only 2 of us" photo with the statue here, and even there's no one in the background.
I went to bed before the lights out, which was 2 AM.
The cot was much more comfortable than I thought but the snorers were pretty bad so that I couldn't sleep well though I wore earplugs.
The waves shown on the ceiling would be shut off at night, but when I woke up at 5 AM, I saw it's still moving but very dark as it's the night time.
I thought it's neat to be able to see what it looked like from the bottom of the ocean.
Rise and Shine! was scheduled at 7 AM, but actually the chime went off at 6:50 AM.
I gathered my stuff before going to breakfast.
Breakfast was at School Lunchrooms.
There're muffins and bagels.
Oatmeal
Yogurt
Orange juice and ice
Coffee and tea
There're fruits also.
Tables.
I got a bagel with cream cheese, a cup of yogurt and hot tea.
Philadelphia 1/2 less fat cream cheese.
It's first time to try reduced fat cream cheese, but it tasted the same as regular one.
After breakfast, I got my bag from the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life and half the cots were taken away already.
From 9 AM, there's a Morning Tour but I imagined it'd be the same as last night so I left for home.
To see empty museum was definitely a great experience because I could see each panel carefully without noise and take photos easily.
Besides, being one of the grown-ups exclusively participating this sleepover was priceless.

開催された。（英語名： Night At The Museum For Grown-Ups）
子供向けのお泊まり会は今までに沢山開催されてきたけれど、21歳以上の人限定の
イベントは史上初の開催となった。
何枚チケットが用意されていたか記憶が定かではないものの、200枚ほどのチケットが
すぐに完売となり、多くの人が参加できなかった。
私たちもチケットを購入できなかった人のグループだったけれど、今年（2015年）は2回、
さらに年明けに2回開催が決定となった。
2015年10月2日のチケットが販売開始になった時、旦那が買ってくれた。
ネットを見ると、この日のチケットは期日ギリギリまで少し余っていたようだった。
持ち物として書かれていたのは以下。
＋ 寝袋
＋ 枕
＋ カメラ
＋ 歯ブラシ、歯磨き粉
＋ 洗顔タオル
＋ 就寝用の温かく、ゆったりした服
＋ 自動販売機で使う小銭
＋ 耳栓（任意）
＋ アイマスク（任意）
荷物は最小限にし、家からパジャマを着て行くことにした。
以下は私が持って行ったもの。
＋ ブランケット（寝袋の代わり）
＋ スマートフォン（カメラの代わり）
＋ 歯ブラシ、歯磨き粉
＋ 洗顔タオル
＋ 耳栓
＋ アイマスク
＋ 使い捨てのマスク（乾燥、埃を防ぐため）
＋ ペットボトルの水
＋ 持ち運べる充電器
＋ エコバッグ（夕食、ツアー、朝食時に貴重品を持ち歩くため）
枕の代わりに、家から着て行ったトレーナーを丸めて使った。
手続きを済ませると、予定表、首からかけるプラスチックのカード、次回使用可能な2枚の
入館チケットが渡された。
クジラか恐竜が描かれたTシャツを配っていて、シャツを受け取るとカードにパンチで穴を
開けていた。
シャツはL、XLのみだった。
荷物を沢山持って来ている人が多く、私は荷物が少ない人の1人だった。
ミルスタインホール オブ オーシャンライフが就寝場所で、自分で好きなコット（折り畳み
簡易ベッド）を選べた。
クジラのお腹が見える辺りを選んで荷物を置いた。
19〜20時に歓迎&説明会があり、シャンパンと水が用意され、ジャズの生演奏もあった。
夕食までに時間があったので館内を少し歩いて回ったのだけれど、全く人がいないので
かなり奇妙に感じたほどだった。
夕食は20時15分〜21時半までパワーハウスで行われ、矢印やライトに従って歩くのは
宝探しのようだった。
夕食場所は落ち着いた雰囲気で、チェロの生演奏付きだった。
各テーブルの中心にはぬいぐるみが置かれていた。
夕食はバフェだった。
マッシュポテトにチーズがかかったもの、サラダ、牛肉、鮭、ポレンタ、緑色の野菜が
並んでいた。
また、デザートも沢山種類があった。
ノンアルコールはスタンドに用意されていて、ワインも置いてあった。
テーブルではウェイターやウェイトレスが赤、白ワインのみを注ぎ、ジュースは毎度席を
立って自分で取りに行かなければならなかった。
コーヒーと紅茶も良いされていた。
とりあえず全部お皿に取ってみた。
緑色の野菜はケールや菜の花のように苦く、ポレンタは変わった味がし、牛肉は乾燥して
硬かった。
デザートはタルト、オペラケーキ、シュークリーム、チーズケーキで、いくつかはココ
ナッツ味でフィリングはどろっとしていた。
テーブルにはチョコレートや指輪型の飴が置いてあったけれど、飴の賞味期限は2014年
9月11日だった。
21時頃にスタッフが各テーブルを回り、メモを探してみてくださいと言っていた。
幸運にも、私の椅子にメモが置いてあり、テーブルにあったぬいぐるみ（シロクマ）を
もらえた。
22時からはナイトミュージアム ツアーがあり、スタッフと博物館を歩いて今まで知ら
なかったことを学んだ。
23時半からは生きた動物を使ったプレゼンテーションがあり、この日の予定で最も気に
なっていたものだった。
今回はフクロウ、ワシ、ワニ、ヘビ、山猫が登場した。
ルナラウンジは23時から翌朝7時まで開放されていて、お菓子や飲み物が自由に取れる
ようになっていた。
果物、プレッツェル、ポテトチップス、クッキー、ブラウニー、レモネードがあった。
1時頃までは博物館内を自由に歩くことができ、3D映画も見ることができた。
夕食は思っていたよりも洗練された印象だったけれど、質はいまいちで、スナックバーの
方が好きだった。（予定表に記載通り、焼きたてのクッキーではなかったのが残念）
お菓子を食べた後に博物館を歩くと、恐竜やサメの口が赤いライトで照らされていた。
特別展示「ライフ アット ザ リミット」も勿論開放されていた。
博物館のメイン エントランスにある2体の恐竜を見に行くと、昼間は混雑しているので
全く人がいないのを見るとかなり不思議だった。
通常ルーズベルトの銅像と2ショットを撮るのは不可能に近いけれど、背景に人が1人も
入らずに撮ることができた。
消灯時間（午前2時）の前に寝ることした。
簡易式ベッドは意外と寝心地は悪くはなかったものの、耳栓をしていても周りのイビキの
大合唱であまり眠れなかった。
天井に映し出された波の映像は夜の間は消されるのかと思ったら、朝5時に目が覚めた時も
ずっと映っていた。
ただ、夜中なので暗い海になっていて、海の底から見上げた時の景色はこうなのだと知る
ことができて面白かった。
起床時間は7時と書かれていたけれど、実際には6時50分にチャイムが鳴った。
簡単に荷物をまとめてから朝食を食べに行った。
朝食はスクール ランチルームに用意されていた。
マフィン、ベーグル、ヨーグルト、オレンジジュースと氷、コーヒー、紅茶があった。
果物も置いてあり、ベーグル用のクリームチーズもあった。
ベーグルとクリームチーズ、ヨーグルト、紅茶を選んだ。
フィラデルフィア クリームチーズの脂肪分50％カットを初めて食べたけれど、通常の
ものと味が変わらず美味しかった。
朝食後、荷物を取りにミルスタインホールに戻ると既に半分程度のコットが撤去されて
いた。
9時からはモーンングツアーがあったけれど、昨晩と同じ内容だと予想しそのまま帰宅。
がらがらの博物館を見て回れるのはとても良い機会で、特に騒音を気にせずにゆっくりと
説明を読んだり、簡単に写真を撮れたりできて良かった。
また、「限られた人数しか参加できない」という特別感も味わうことができた。
